The cleaner you buy once

Pennyshine clears out the junk your Mac or Windows PC piles up, finds the big and duplicate files you forgot about, removes apps along with everything they leave behind and trims what starts when you log in. It costs $4.99, once.

No subscription and no account. It all runs on your own computer, and what it removes goes to the Trash first, so you can change your mind.

It all goes to the Trash first.

Try it: untick anything you'd keep, then press Clean.

What it does

Smart Scan clears the everyday junk in one go. The other tools track down what's taking up space and what starts up with your computer.

Smart Scan

Finds the caches, logs and temporary files your apps leave behind, plus browser caches and the gigabytes Xcode, npm and pip pile up. Look over the list, then clean it in one go.

Disk map

Your whole disk drawn as blocks sized by what they hold, so the folder eating your space is the biggest thing on screen. Click into it to see what's inside.

Large and old files

Your biggest files, and the ones you haven't opened in months, in one list. Sort it, take a quick look at each, and send what you don't need to the Trash.

Duplicates

Finds exact copies by comparing what's inside the files, not just their names, and lets you choose which copy to keep.

Uninstaller

Removes an app along with the settings, caches and support files it leaves behind. On Windows it runs the app's own uninstaller first, then sweeps up what's left.

Startup items

See everything that opens when you log in, including the helpers apps add without telling you, and switch off what you don't need.

Every tool works the same way on a Mac and a PC, with rules written for each: ~/Library, login items and launch agents on a Mac, and AppData, the Startup folder and the Run keys on Windows.

How it works

Install it once. After that, a clean-up takes a scan and a look.

  1. Install Pennyshine

On a Mac, drag it to Applications and turn on Full Disk Access when it asks, so it can see the caches macOS keeps private. On Windows, run the installer.

  2. Scan

Press Scan. Pennyshine looks through your caches, logs and temporary files and adds up how much space you'd get back.

  3. Look it over and clean

Untick anything you want to keep, then press Clean. It all goes to the Trash or the Recycle Bin, ready to empty when you're sure.

Careful by design

A cleaner is only worth having if it never removes the wrong thing. Pennyshine is built around that.

You see it first. Every scan ends in a list. Nothing goes until you've looked it over and pressed Clean, and you can untick anything.

To the Trash, not gone. Files go to the Trash on a Mac or the Recycle Bin on Windows, so you can put anything back until you empty it.

Hands off the system. Pennyshine only cleans in your own folders, with rules that leave a file alone when in doubt. It never touches macOS or Windows itself.

Your exclusions. Tell it to leave a folder alone and it won't look there again.

Nothing leaves your computer. There's no account and no cloud. Scans run on your computer, and what's on your disk stays your business.

No miracle buttons. Pennyshine doesn't "free up memory", scan for viruses or update drivers. Those either do nothing useful on a modern computer or need servers behind them, which is how other cleaners end up as subscriptions.

Questions

Is it really $4.99, once?
Yes. You pay once and keep it, with free updates. There's no subscription and nothing to renew.
How can it cost so little?
Pennyshine runs entirely on your computer, so there are no servers to pay for, and it leaves out the features that would need them. That keeps it cheap to make and cheap to sell.
Is it safe?
It shows you everything before it removes anything, sends what you clean to the Trash or Recycle Bin instead of deleting it, and never touches system files. More about safety.
Do I need an account?
No. Buy it, paste in your license key and you're done. The key is checked on your computer, so Pennyshine works offline too.
Can I try it before I buy it?
Yes. Download it and run a scan to see how much space you'd get back before you pay anything.
Does one license cover Mac and Windows?
Yes. One license covers two computers, and they can be a Mac and a PC.
Why does it ask for Full Disk Access on a Mac?
macOS keeps some caches and app data private, even from apps you run yourself. Full Disk Access lets Pennyshine see them. It still only cleans what you approve, and it never sends anything anywhere.
Will it make my computer faster?
It gives you back disk space, and switching off startup items you don't need can make logging in quicker. It doesn't claim more than that.
Does it remove viruses?
No. Malware scanning needs a constant stream of updates from a server. Use the protection built into macOS and Windows, which keeps itself up to date.
